Golden Buprestid Beetle (Buprestis aurulenta) on Aug 6, 2022

Description of specimen

Small emerald green metallic beetle with copper line outlines around the wing covers. Not more than half an inch in length and it flew.

Commentary

Fortunately this is the golden buprestid, Buprestis aurulenta. It is a native and a not considered a pest.

Golden Buprestid Beetle information from iNaturalist

Location

Found adult specimen crawling across the deck of my house directly across the street from the city park. I have photos of the insect, but didn’t collect a sample because I didn’t realize it was invasive. We have an ash in our backyard so I will see if there are any specimens I can collect from there.
