Reptiles and Amphibians - invasive

American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) on Aug 17, 2022

Submitter does not have a specimen

Description of specimen

Large tadpoles, big enough that I could see their splashes from 50 ft away. My brother got pretty close, close enough to see that they were much larger than normal tadpoles. Unfortunately I couldn’t get any pictures of them, but as far as I know this is the only species to have tadpoles that big (that have been spotted in the US).

Commentary

Thank you for your report! The Oregon Dept. of Fish and Wildlife has a fact sheet about bullfrogs and actions that can be taken at https://www.dfw.state.or.us/conservationstrategy/invasive_species/docs/bullfrog_fact_sheet.pdf. Your report will be incorporated into our statewide invasives database, iMapInvasives, and will contribute to our understanding of the distribution of bullfrogs in Oregon.
