Dobsonflies (Family Corydalidae) on Aug 27, 2022

Submitter does not have a specimen

Description of specimen

Approximately 2ā€ long. This large moth-like creature flew in with a companion last night. The other one seemed to leave but this one is currently stuck in my bedroom. I usually just let them die from dehydration. But, Iā€™m not sure if this is invasive and/or dangerous?

Commentary

Thank you for your report!

No, it's not dangerous. That's a dobsonfly (family Corydalidae). They are attracted to lights at night. You can put it back outside.
