Description of specimen

Sprouts of holly are growing at the base of the elms lining the street in front of the two addresses indicated above. The holly is growing on the sidewalk-facing side of the trunk of each tree.

Commentary

Hi, Patrick. Thanks for your response. Holly is definitely a species of concern in the Portland area. Paradoxically, though, because it's so common, holly is a species not on our tracking/treatment list just yet (our current staffing level is 1). For the additional reason that the City has no basis for requiring holly removal at private properties, we rely on folks discussing among themselves and doing what makes sense. If you are able, pulling is preferred, although this usually leaves root fragments behind, requiring regular visits over the next 3-4 years.
