Description of specimen

Big thick & chunky spider with massive brown butt

Commentary

Thanks for not killing it! It is a folding trapdoor spider (genus Antrodiaetus). They are native but not commonly seen because they are nocturnal, and because they build hidden retreats that they shelter in, complete with folding doors! She has probably been washed out of her tunnel by the rain. One of our most impressive spiders, and although she has large jaws, they are not aggressive.
