Tree of Heaven (Ailanthus altissima) on Feb 25, 2010
Submitter does not have a specimen
Description of specimen
There are 3 very large Trees of Heaven here. I think one is in the alley and 2 are actually inside fenced yards.
Commentary
Thanks for your email. Tree of heaven is not a species that's currently being targeted by our Early Detection/Rapid Response program. ED/RR focuses on species with limited distribution, for which eradication is possible. While there are lots of reasons to consider tree of heaven invasive, it is too widespread to be part of a workable management plan with the resources at hand.
Thanks again, though, for your concern about invasives and for taking the time to file a report. Feel free to contact me directly at mitch.bixby@bes.ci.portland.or.us if you have other concerns or questions.
