Description of specimen

A physical specimen was submitted to the Metro science team, and the initial identification was Petasites japonicus. The leaf size did not quite reach the size often reported or pictured, and at maximum growth the leaves were probably 24' diameter in 2022. In 2023 this species was treated with herbicide before seeding. The tubers are visible at the soil surface, and it has reached flowering in both 2022 and 2023, and likely in years past.
