Submitter does not have a specimen

Description of specimen

I saw the tunnels in a downed and dead tree. I do not know the tree species, or if the tunnels are from a concerning pest or just a regular native species. I just wanted to have someone with more expertise take a look at this picture to see if this is a concerning situation, or not a concerning situation. I know Emerald Ash Borer makes "S" shaped tunnels- these don't particularly look "S" shaped. Any information you provide will help me to have more skilled eyes when I am out on my adventures.

Commentary

Thank you for your report! This is not EAB. Those galleries are not S-shaped (zig-zagging -- those galleries are meandering) and those holes appear oval, not D-shaped. Without knowing the species of tree it is difficult to know which borer might have made those galleries. Thanks for being on the lookout!
