Description of specimen

This is Multiflora rose (Rosa multiflora), it is not on your list. It is spreading both vegetatively and by seed in a shaded, wet soil environment. I know this species has been present in Oregon for years (and even planted by the highway department at one time), but this is the first time I have seen it acting as a worrisome invasive- it is spreading and successfully competing with Himalaya blackberry. New seedlings have popped up. My concern is that it may have moved past the "lag phase" that invasives often have and this population may have genetically adapted to our local climate... in other words, it may be emerging as a new invasive.

Commentary

Hi Keith, Thanks for this report of multiflora rose. Indeed, it can be an impactful invasive plant. I'll follow-up by phone. Thanks -Jeff Lesh, City of Gresham
