Insects and Spiders - native

One-eyed sphinx (Smerinthus opthamica) on Jun 12, 2023

Submitter does not have a specimen

Description of specimen

I have photos I will attach. It was a mating pair. I thought they were dead as they'd been in that location for a few days (originally thought it was leaves.)
I do not have a physical specimen. I really did think they were dead. When I went to look again today, they were gone. Perhaps blew away.

Commentary

Thank you for your report! Smerinthus opthalmica is a dramatic native species. They are not pests. A beautiful pair of moths. Thanks for being on the lookout!
