Commentary

Thank you for your report! This is most likely our native bald-faced hornet (Dolichovespula maculata). They make very large paper nests in trees.

I am located at 1583 Franklin Ave. in Astoria, oregon and spotted in the apartment building that shares the backyard with us is a basketball sized hornet nest.
