Garlic Mustard (Alliaria petiolata) on Apr 23, 2010

Submitter does not have a specimen
EDRR Status: Ongoing monitoring

Description of specimen

I drove by a patch of flowering garlic mustard this morning. ODOT crews were spraying the roadside just as I drove past, but the spray didn't appear to be reaching high enough up the slope to contact the garlic mustard. The patch was maybe 20-30 ft long and about 6-10 ft from the asphalt edge.

Commentary

Thanks for the report Amy,

I'll be sure to check up on the site to see if the garlic mustard was properly treated by ODOT. If plants got missed I'll be working to develop an appropriate response for the infestation. We appreciate your submitting this report to the Oregon Invasives Hotline. All the best,

Sam

Hi Amy,

I wanted to follow up with you about your report. I checked the population and it appears that the ODOT crew you saw actually treated a large portion of the population, but it looks like they may have missed a few plants.

Garlic musatrd is a priority plant in Clackamas County and the Conservation District is committed to control this species. So I can assue you that this population will be a priority for control efforts in coming season. Again, thank you for your time reporting this.

Sam
