Description of specimen

We saw a large wasp, approx. 2-2.5'' long. Black and orange/yellow striped body. It looked like a murder hornet or Asian giant hornet.

Commentary

Thank you for your report! No Northern Giant Hornets (= Asian Giant Hornets) have been seen in Oregon yet. Without an image or specimen its hard to guess what you saw, but most reports this year are Cicada killers, large native wasps in the genus Sphecius. They are not usually aggressive. Thanks for being on the lookout!
