White-Spotted Sawyer (Monochamus scutellatus) on Aug 5, 2023

Originally reported as Asian Longhorned Beetle (Anoplophora glabripennis)

Description of specimen

Not 100% sure this is what it was, but it was a large, black beetle with the distinctive long white and black striped antennae. Didn’t realize it was invasive or else I wouldn’t have let it go.

Commentary

Thank you for your report! I wish the photo were better, but I am pretty certain that this is our native white-spotted pine sawyer and not ALB. They differ in the pattern of white spots on their wing covers.

Thanks for being on the lookout!
