Commentary

Dear Steve,

Thanks for reporting yellow flag iris to the website hotline! Yes, this looks like yellow flag iris. Yellow flag iris is certainly a problematic invader and we need to take action to prevent further spread. I will forward your report to the Lincoln County SWCD, which has an active invasive species control program. Given yellow flag iris is already fairly abundant in the area, this particular sighting may not be controlled immediately. But your report is nonetheless extremely useful as we work to better understand the actual distribution of this species. How we respond will depend on the landownership, as well. I will let you know how local authorities respond. Thanks again for the report!

Hello Again Steve,

I contacted Josh Lambert at the Lincoln SWCD and this was his response. Thanks again for the report.

Tania,
thanks for the update. We are currently taking GPS and distribution inventory of Yellow Flag Iris and Policemans Helmet throughout the county.
My hope is to put together a control effort for one or both in the next year (ODA grant). I can respond to the report via phone this week if needed (although you have filled Steve in pretty well), and can probably document the site in the next two weeks. The google map should be adequate for finding the landowner.
thanks,

Josh Lambert
