Description of specimen

Unknown beetle larva, found close to the surface while digging out a Douglas-fir seedling. VERY large; white body, orange head.

Someone on iNaturalist noted its resemblance to *Popilla japonica* larvae, so I went out and found the grub the next day (2/20/24) and collected it.

Commentary

Thank you for your report! No, that isn't a Japanese Beetle grub, but it is in the same family (family Scarabaeidae). One of our entomologists can identify the grub if you drop it off at ODA.
