Land Plants - invasive

Knotweed (unknown species) (Fallopia sp.) on May 21, 2010

Submitter does not have a specimen
EDRR Status: Local expert notified

Description of specimen

an area about 50 feet long and 20 feet wide. approximately 20 to 50 plants between 5 and 7 feet in height.
i have photos but can not enter them from this computer

there's also starthistle and some other thistles i couldn't id along the road all the way to the quarry. i would be willing to try to organize a pull as these weeds are only along the road right now and haven't moved into the forest (this road is in a blm forest that's mostly pristine except for the roadway)

Commentary

there might be other specimens along this year round stream that empties into williams creek; much of the creek is hard to see and hard to get to. the place where i spotted the specimen is the only spot where the creek runs within 30 feet of the road *and* the vegetation is sparce enough to see down there.

i would like to know if this is knotweed and what type it is.
i don't like the drop and drag its really hard to use with an exact gps coordinate. would be better if the *pin* would move itself when an exact coordinate is entered

Hi Debbie!

Thanks so much for using the hotline to report knotweed. I will forward this to our EDRR Coordinator (Alicia Fitzgerald at The Nature Conservancy) to determine who needs to be notified and the appropriate response action. Ideally we will get back to you regarding this report and a possible weed pull (thanks! that is a great idea) within a few days.

Thanks again for attending the workshop and reporting knotweed! We are looking forward to working with you!
