Inch long shiny beetle looks like it was metal

Commentary

Thank you for your report! No! You didn't need to kill it! That IS one of the metallic wood-boring beetles, our largest native one, the Sculptured pine borer, Chalcophora anguilicollis. They are not tree-killers and they're not considered pests.
