Originally reported as Mediterranean Oak Borer (Xyleborus monographus)
Submitter does not have a specimen
I did not see an actual physical specimen, but I have found what I believe to be evidence of Mediterranean Oak Borer in these White Oak trees. D-Shaped Borer holes and frass around the trees. Appears to be targeting damaged trees and deadwood.
MOB attack can be recognized by the very fine wood dust around the pinhole-sized holes. These larger holes were made by another borer. Most of our native woodborers lay eggs on damaged or recently dead trees, and do not attack and kill healthy trees. The attached fact sheet will help you recognize the signs of MOB attack.
