Knotweed (unknown species) (Fallopia sp.) on Jul 14, 2010

Submitter does not have a specimen
EDRR Status: Population assessed

Description of specimen

Japanese Knotweed. I reported this several years ago. Former residents allowed me to spray with RoundUp and I tried Blackberry and Brush killer as well. Retarded it. New residents have children, didn't want to spray or treat even though I gave them literature about Knotweed. Clump is in Southwest corner of lot under and near Douglas Fir (@20' tall)

Commentary

Hi, Kymberly. Thanks for your email. If you'd like, we can talk about treatment options. The timing of the spray seems to be important for this plant; we've had good luck treating from Labor Day to late October. We've also partnered with the Tryon Creek Watershed Council, who may be able to inject, rather than spray.
