Description of specimen

It was a cicada. I had 6 adults from Tennessee that confirmed it.
Thought they said the ones in Tennessee have red eyes and this one didn’t. It was about 1” to 2” long.
I didn’t know we had them here.

Commentary

Thank you for your report! Yes, we do have a few native cicadas in Oregon. The very noisy Dog-day cicadas that live in Tennessee do not occur here, and we don't have the famously long-lived 13- and 17-year periodic cicadas here (that have the brilliant red eyes). Oregon cicadas are pretty inconspicuous and sing more quietly. Thanks for being on the lookout!
