Commentary
Thank you for your report! No, this isn't killing your trees. This is the native "Ponderous borer", Trichocnemis spiculatus. They aren't pests or tree-killers. They breed in rotting conifer stumps and logs. You're right, they are in the Longhorned beetle family, our largest representative in Oregon. Thanks for being on the lookout.

Location
Found exactly at my address on the back deck hiding under my shoes. We are in a private forest that has bee logged maybe 5 yrs ago. There are lots of Douglas Firs that are dying from top down. Alders, oak, hawthorns.. all the usual. I would like to identify what is killing these trees & what can be done. I captured this beetle. It’s huge! I think longhorn but just not sure. Can you help?
