Fall Webworm Moth (Hyphantria cunea) on Sep 1, 2024

Submitter does not have a specimen

Description of specimen

The three nests look like a very dense cobweb that overtakes a small area of a tree branch. You should be able to see the three nest areas in the attached photo.

Commentary

Thank you for your report! That is the native Fall Webworm, Hyphantria cunea, not Spongy Moth (we don't use the other name anymore). The webs are unattractive, but the trees usually recover.
