Description of specimen

Have not found an actual insect - our ash tree though is having some of the same symptoms as what appears from the ash borers. Not sure if that is what’s causing it, but wanted to report just in case.

Commentary

Thank you for your report! Emerald ash borer makes D-shaped holes about 1/8" wide. You may be able to see S-shaped galleries inside those bark splits. A tree with bark splits like that would likely also show noticeable canopy thinning if EAB were the cause.
