Description of specimen

I think its larva from an emerald borer. It's white with a larger head. We're burning the wood so any left will be dead this winter :)

Commentary

Thank you for your report! Those do not look like EAB grubs, except in general shape. EAB grubs are flat, and the segments of the body are bell-shaped. If this was ash wood that you were splitting, then these may be the native Western ash borer. This is not a tree killer. They feed in dead wood.
