Bumble Bees (Bombus spp.) on Feb 27, 2025

Submitter does not have a specimen

Description of specimen

Two bumblebees with orange stripes across their backs. (Black, yellow, and orange.) They were visiting some crocuses that I planted for early pollinators, along with a honeybee.

Commentary

Thank you for your report! Bombus impatiens, the Eastern bumblebee, doesn't have orange stripes on its abdomen. "Bumble Bees of Washington State" gives identification tips to recognize the Eastern Bumble Bee (https://washingtonbumblebees.org/bumblebee-field-id/black-hind-abdomen/common-eastern-bumble-bombus-impatiens/). Your bees are probably native Oregonians. Thanks for being on the lookout for invasive species!
