The entire natural area along SW Sunset Hwy, from Exit 68 to SW Market St, is being overtaken by invasive English ivy. The vine has aggressively climbed old trees, creating an excessively heavy canopy that increases the risk of trees being pulled down. English ivy weakens trees by:
• Adding significant weight to branches, making them more likely to break or topple during storms.
• Strangling and smothering the tree’s bark, restricting nutrient flow.
• Trapping moisture against the trunk, making trees more susceptible to rot and disease.
This infestation has expanded more than ever before, threatening the long-term health of the landscape. Please deploy vine control measures immediately to prevent further spread. These trees are irreplaceable.
