Iridescent green beetle from Douglas Fir, dead, about five-eights inch long. (1975)

Commentary

Thank you for your report! The beetles you've seen are more than likely the "Golden Buprestid", Buprestis aurulenta. These beetles breed in dead conifers like Douglas-fir. They are not tree killers.
