Commentary

Thank you for your report! We call this native longhorn beetle the "Ponderous borer" and the correct scientific name is Trichocnemis spiculatus (it's been reclassified from the genus Ergates), but we agree on the identification. They are not pests. Their grubs feed in dead conifer stumps and logs.
