Eurasian Collared Dove (Streptopelia decaocto) on Apr 20, 2011

Submitter does not have a specimen

Description of specimen

We have seen a single Eurasian Collared Dove in our bird feeders for the past 4 days. This is the first year that we have seen this species. It comes in during the morning hours with the mourning doves. It is lighter colored and twice the size of the mourning doves and has the characteristic black collar of the Eurasian. We also have band-tailed pigeons that regularly feed in our yard but it does not associate with them.

Commentary

Hi Kathy, thank you for the report. We have received increasing numbers of reports of Eurasian collared doves in the Portland area nad some coastal locationsover the past year - I'll forward your report to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife so that they are aware of the presence of this bird in Monroe. Thank you for the report, and for helping protect Oregon from invasive species.
