Description of specimen

Single specimen found around 11pm crossing the bike path right next to the bathrooms tagged above. It made a scratching sound when touched, we left it alone as we didn’t know what it was.

Commentary

Thank you for your report! This is our native longhorn beetle, Trichocnemis spiculatus, the "Ponderous borer". They are not pests. Their grubs live in decaying conifer stumps and logs.
