Description of specimen

Appears to be a "pigeon horntail"
(Tremex Columba) based on my online research.

Commentary

Thank you for your report! The pigeon tremex is well-established in Oregon. They are not particularly harmful as they attack dead wood.

Location

It was perched on a potted plant in our home garden last evening 8/14/25.
Because of its unfamiliar (and somewhat alarming) appearance, I captured it and immediately placed her in the freezer.
