Italian arum. I used a photo to identity a plant in my backyard and the Oregon site said it’s an invasive and toxic plant and to use this form to report it if it was in the gray area on the map. I looked up Independence and it’s gray.
I’m going to clip the berry seed things off and dig it up and dispose of it as described on the website.
I bought this house last January and this is the first time I’ve seen this plant and the orange berry looking things. It was green and leafy all summer and I thought it was a lily.
Thank you for your concern and for reporting this plant. It appears to be Italian Arum, which is very difficult to irradicate. See Remedy recommendations below. You do not need to keep any parts as specimen. Put all parts in the trash - don't attempt to compost this persistent species.
