Commentary

Thank you for your report! This is not EAB. This is one of our native jewel beetles in the genus Buprestis. These beetles are larger and much less slender than EAB. They are not tree killers.
Their grubs feed in recently dead and dying conifers. They are not the cause of the decline in the Doug firs or cedars, which is more likely drought related. Additionally, EAB attacks ash trees and a few other closely related trees in the ash family like white fringe tree and European olive. It does not attack other trees.
