Submitter does not have a specimen

Description of specimen

I heard the Think Out Loud episode of 9/11 re: the Emerald Ash Borer. I happened to be re-stacking my wood pile the other day and saw a log that had an interesting channel in the wood. I didn’t like the look of this “hwy” so I set the log aside. Then I looked up the Emerald Ash and the photo on your site and my log are very similar. No evidence of larvae but of course I’m no expert. I can send a photo.
What steps should I take to ‘neutralize’ my wood?

Commentary

Thank you for your report! Dried and seasoned firewood will not be attacked by EAB, but freshly cut ash wood from a newly dead or dying tree might have live insects in it. These galleries look like wood borers that break down dead wood; EAB galleries are clearly S-shaped. Here is the link to OregonEAB.com. At this website you'll be able to view images of EAB damage, and also find guidelines for firewood and resources for safely disposing of infested wood.
