Submitter does not have a specimen

Description of specimen

I have a mountain ash tree on my property and it is not healthy with many limbs losing leaves. There are many small holes in the bark consistent with images online of emerald ash (I think). I have not had an arborist look at it yet.

Commentary

Thank you for your report! No, mountain ash is not susceptible to EAB. EAB attacks only true ash trees in the genus Fraxinus and some other related trees in the ash family; mountain ash isn't actually related. Those lines of holes in the trunk aren't borer holes. Those are made by sapsuckers (woodpeckers).

Thanks for being on the lookout!
