Land Plants - invasive

Himalayan Blackberry (Rubus bifrons [R. aremeniacus, R. discolor, R. procerus]) on Aug 14, 2011

Submitter does not have a specimen
EDRR Status: Local expert notified

Description of specimen

Backyard slope along a creek - Bindweed/Morning Glory, Blackberry, Iris, Laurel hedges, and others. This is a mess. Going to attempt removal by hand, covering with cardboard+plastic, possible chemical treatment such as Casoron and/or Roundup

Commentary

Any tips appreciated. We're aware this is a multi-year task to remove, and are concerned with neighboring properties re-seeding or re-infesting. Also want to minimize both erosion and spread of chemical agents.

Hi, Sarah. Sorry to just be getting back to you; goof in the hotline.

So, it sounds like you've got a lot going on there. It's probably easiest to talk on the phone about who could help and what you might try. If it's the whole neighborhood, you might be able to swing some small grants from local agencies. You and I can also talk about how minimize herbicide toxicity; Casoron wouldn't be my first choice.

Feel free to reach me directly at your convenience. My email is mitch.bixby@portlandoregon.gov; my phone is 503-823-2989. Thanks for your email!

Sorry about the auto-response on the blackberry. It's just one of the things we'll end up talking about.
