Commentary

Good Morning Shirley,

Thanks for reporting to the invasive hotline. It is great to see individuals like yourself taking the initiative to help combat invasive species. We were hoping to verify your invasive hotline report and I was wondering whether the hawthorn is located east of Estacada as in the map you submitted with your report or at Molalla River State Park near Canby. Any additional information would be appreciated. Thanks,

Sam

Ms. Hartley,

Thank you for submitting your report to the Oregon Invasives Hotline. Invasive Species like European Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) are unfortunately, and all too common site in our natural areas.

Control and containment of this species is difficult due to the continued dispersal of this species by birds and other wildlife. It widespread throughout Clackamas County and has a significant impact on our native ecosystem, in particular open grasslands. As a widespread invader in Clackamas County, management shifts from eradication to ongoing maintenance, with the local land manager.

I have contacted, the land manger at Molalla River State Park and have informed him of the infestation. They are working to keep European hawthorn and other invasives under control in the park and will take into account your report while planning park maintenance activities.

Again thank you for your time in reporting this infestation. We appreciate your efforts and we will do everything we can to help address this concern. Please feel free to contact me if you have additional questions.

Thanks,

Sam
