Description of specimen

This is a small site, but on the banks of a small side stream of Flat Creek. I was very alarmed about it being so close/in stream. I could provide images if needed and/or take someone to the site.

Commentary

Dear Benjamin,

Thanks for this knotweed report. I agree this looks like an important site for rapid response given it's proximity to the creek. I will forward this report to the Willamette National Forest staff so that they may be able to possibly inspect the site and evaluate it for a response. I will let you know the outcome. Do you by chance have a photo of the site?

Thanks again for taking the time to submit this important report, and I will be in touch soon,

Tania

Hi Benjamin,

My apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I asked the Forest Service botanist to check it out, and the crew found Aralia californica. This is a native species that may look similar to knotweed (large leaves and in wet areas). Do you think you may have mis-identified knotweed? Or, is it possible the crew just didn't find the same plant you reported? If you feel very sure it was knotweed I can ask them to take a second look.

Thanks again for the report! Even so-called "false" reports are better than no report at all because it shows people are looking, and it could have been knotweed. I'd rather get a false report than risk a new invader go undetected. We want to know! Please keep on reporting!

Take care,
