Description of specimen

This weekend, I noticed a plant starting to blossom and I did not recognize it. I picked a piece and showed it to a co-worker who is good with botany. She said it is Herb Robert. I checked the cards we were given at an Early Detection and Rapid Response workshop to learn more about it and what to do. On Monday I called the Clatsop Soil and Water Conservation District office to report it. They said it would be fine for me to pull it up. I took some photos then pulled up all (49) of the plants I could find along 25' of the Highway 202 shoulder. They are now in a plastic bag and will soon go into our trash.

Commentary

As I was watching the news on Tuesday about the May Day demonstrations/Occupy movement, I had an idea that it would be great to get those people excited about pulling up invasive plants in the northwest! They could put their energy into positive work and make an important improvement to the planet. Maybe we could finally get rid of Scot's broom, tansy ragwort, holly, English Ivy, non-native blackberries, purple loosestrife, etc. in this area!
