Description of specimen

Two bushes of gorse with spiny branches and trifoliate leaves with thin spine-like leaves.

Commentary

Yes, this is gorse. Gorse is a common weed along the coast from Reedsport to Brookings. It is a class B weed according to Oregon Department of Agriculture noxious weed laws. State law does not require control of class B weeds, but class B weeds are prohibited from being sold, purchased or transported. For local weed ordinances in Oregon counties and cities, please reach out to your local Soil and Water Conservation District, Cooperative Weed Management Area, County offices, or city offices. Location

My name is Nissa. I live on the south side of coos bay adjacent to Coalbank Slough and today, while walking my dogs, I came across two gorse bushes.

I was taking this cut-through between the end of S8th and S7th streets (which I thought was city property - apparently not! Woops!) and noticed two very happy gorse bushes growing there. See map, Lat/Long and attached images

I have never seen gorse this far north of Bandon before (though I'm sure it pops up here and there). Seeing as how this plant is highly invasive, and potentially a fire hazard. I know Bandon has regulations surrounding it's control on private property.

According to my on-X maps, (hunding app on my phone) this 1.59 property is owned by Brandie Crookey et al. Frankly, it is covered in invasive species.

I hope you can please notify the land owner and go out with them (or a contractor) and see that they remove these bushes (and ideally also the scotch/french broom) - they will likely have to be removed several times because this species is quite tenacious.
