Description of specimen

Large wasp-looking creatures nesting in an abandoned bird box. Looks very similar to pictures of the Vespa mandarinia (giant hornet) I've found online. I've sprayed the box with wasp killer before thinking that I may need to report this. I'm not sure if any are still alive however I know a few were out of the box when I sprayed it, but you may want to check this.
