Red-headed Ash Borer (Neoclytus acuminatus) on Jul 18, 2022

Description of specimen

The Oregon Ash tree in our front yard didn’t fully leaf out this spring - only about the half limbs have leaves (see photos). Last week we noticed woodpeckers working on the dead limbs and looked at the limbs with binoculars and a spotted scope and could lots of “tunnels” in the branches under the bark where the woodpeckers had removed the bark (see photos). This was about the same time as the news about the first Emerald Ash Borer in Oregon. So we thought we would report this even though we haven’t seen any green adults in the area.
