Description of specimen

Rusty orange hair, and black and rusty orange back, with a group of black hair on its head or butt.

Commentary

Thanks for your report! This is silver-spotted tiger moth, which can feed on Doug-fir, western hemlock, shore pine, Sitka spruce and other conifers. It feeds on older needles without destroying the buds and new needles. it is native species and not considered a major pest.
