Description of specimen
Rusty orange hair, and black and rusty orange back, with a group of black hair on its head or butt.
Commentary
Thanks for your report! This is silver-spotted tiger moth, which can feed on Doug-fir, western hemlock, shore pine, Sitka spruce and other conifers. It feeds on older needles without destroying the buds and new needles. it is native species and not considered a major pest.

Washington I can’t report them, it was in the sand I saved it and put it in the grass, I took a picture and then looked it up to find it was invasive….. can’t really tell you much more. It was in cranberry beach, Long Beach, WA
