Description of specimen

About a week ago I noticed a beautiful emerald-green beetle on my kitchen windowsill. I had never seen one in the thirty-five years I have lived here, so I knew it was something kind of special. I considered trying to catch it but was busy and didn't know who to report it to, so I went about my business. It was gone a few minutes later when I returned. I am certain that it was an emerald ash borer beetle.

I don't know if this report will be of value to you, but if by chance you are setting traps to catch them, around my home might be a good place to set a trap or two. I am sorry I didn't catch it or report it earlier, but I just found out about you in the Statesman Journal. I'll quickly report any other sighting.

Commentary

Thanks for your report. Hnfortunately, without a picture of the specimen we cannot identify whether it is EAB or not. Oregon is home to thousands of insect species, some of which resemble EAB. Check out this guide here:

For trapping, we are at the end of the season where adults are flying about. Trapping season is June 1 - Sept 1. Traps and the training to run them are for local government agencies and state agencies. We did have a number of traps in your area this year. Check out the trap status here:
