Description of specimen

Green metallic/iridescent beetle with purple on the shell. About the size of a grain of rice.

Commentary

Thank you for your report to the hotline. This is a native beetle, Chrysophana placida, not emerald ash borer. For the ash trees with the dead tops, that is one symptom of EAB. Dead tops can also be caused by drought and native insects/pathogens. Check out diagnostic symptoms of EAB at www.OregonEAB.com. If you notice "D-shaped" exit holes and serpentine galleries under the bark of ash trees, please take a picture and submit a new report. Thanks again.
