Description of specimen

Bulging and splits along bark of ash tree superficially similar to EAB sign. Damage is mostly within reach of people. No d-shaped exit holes, and damage is possibly due to humans, but figured it’d be better to be safe than sorry just in case. Tree has about 10 - 15 inches DBH (rough estimate).

Commentary

Thanks for your report. I did not see any exit holes in this picture. The damage looks like it came from a hatchet or something similar. Ash can bounce back pretty quickly from an injury like that. If you see exit holes, get a good closeup picture. If you see adults flying around, or galleries under the bark, take pictures of those too and submit them here or under a new report.
