Commentary

Hi Richard, No requirements for landowners if EAB is found on private property. The only restriction is that, under Oregon Dept. of Agriculture quarantine, infested wood cannot leave the quarantine area. In nearly every case, landowners will be responsible for management and mitigation. There are some management tactics you can start taking now, like tree inventories of ash, deciding if you want to protect some with insecticide injections, thinking about removal and replanting with alternate species. More on EAB detection, identfication, spread, management, rules, etc. here: www.OregonEAB.com.

If you are considering harvesting ash wood for timber, you will have to go through the process of submitting a notification of operations just like normal, through the FERNS process. Your local ODF stewardship forester can help. https://www.oregon.gov/ODF/Working/Pages/FindAForester.aspx
